Southerness Point Just South of Dumfries is a vast amount of sand stretching into the Solway Firth and around the emendate cost line. The map does not do justice to this beach since it stretches for almost 4 miles to the west of the Lighthouse.
The best area to kite at is just west of the lighthouse.
Drive down to the lighthouse (watch the potholes) turn right and follow the rough track for about a mile till you come in line with the golf course. If you can get close enough to the beach (you will need a 4x4) your walk with your kit will be less. The beach opens out to firm flat sand just after the rocks. Depending on tides it could be wet but as you can see from the pic it dries out well on a good day.
Best Wind: S, E, W.
Worst Winds : Not really any N can be gusty
Good Points
• Large amount of sand.
• No one there.
